In celebration of Darwin’s 200th birthday, I curated a 2010 exhibit of art with evolution themes at Fernbank Museum of Natural History in Atlanta, called Selections, in which I also exhibited two pieces of my own — a series of paintings titled Contrivances and this triptych titled Told you so.

In 1862, Darwin received a specimen of an orchid from Madagascar, Angraecum sesquipedale, which has a surprisingly long nectary — almost a foot long. He predicted there must be a large moth with a proboscis nearly that long, and it was later found: Morgan’s sphinx moth, Xanthopan morganii. Titled Told You So, this triptych of three 3′ x 5′ paintings celebrates that prediction.
