In 1862, Darwin received a specimen of an orchid from Madagascar, Angraecum sesquipedale, which has a surprisingly long nectary — almost a foot long. He predicted there must be a large moth with a proboscis nearly that long, and it was later found: Morgan’s sphinx moth, Xanthopan morganii. Titled “told you so,” this triptych of three 3′ x 5′ paintings celebrate that prediction.
